Designed for people who do not have too much time in Peru, our One day Inca Trail is the perfect option to walk to the Machu Picchu Inca Citadel all in one day. The stunning cultural show of Inca ruins, juxtaposed with exotic mountains, primitive lush vegetation and extraordinary ecological varieties all encompass the true appeal of the Inca Trail. This one day Inca Trail goes through a National Park and enters through the Sun Gate, providing one of the most unique views of Machu Picchu. Upon arriving at Machu Picchu, you will get a private guided tour, walking through important temples, palaces, sacred places and outstanding buildings

Itinerary

Day 1: Cusco – Ollantaytambo – Km104 – Wiñaywayna – Sun Gate – Machu Picchu – Aguas Calientes – Cusco

For this one day Inca Trail, we will pick you up at 4am from Cusco,  at 5:30am from Ollantaytambo, or any hotels along the Sacred Valley. (You must let us know where you are staying to coordinate the pick up time). We’ll board the train at 6:10 am that takes us to KM 104 for about one hour and a half, where we stop at a checkpoint to show the passport.

On the way to our Machu Picchu one day hike, you’ll have the chance to see an abrupt change of temperature as we ride the train; Cusco and sacred valley will be cold in the morning, and KM 104 is warm and hot, so we recommend all guests be prepared with proper clothes for this temperature shift. We’ll stay half an hour before we start walking, where we put Sunscreen on (factor 35 or higher) and Insect repellent. Because we are in the jungle, (cloud forest) there are a lot of mosquitoes.

We’ll start walking for our 1 day Inca Trail, visiting the first Inca construction “Chachabamba” just five minutes away. The professional tour guide will explain the history for about fifteen minutes, then we’ll start walking up for three hours to Wiñaywayna (mini machu picchu– forever young). The trail is easy up for the first two hours with beautiful views, but the last one hour is a little bit more challenging with stairs going up and down.

Wiñay Wayna (Forever Young) measures in at a height of 2,600 m/8,500 ft., and has many elements that allow a unique opportunity to learn about Incan history. From Wiñay Wayna, we’ll walk an undulating trail (balcony way) to the Sun Gate, where we’ll see the first view of Machu Picchu.  We start walking down for forty-five minutes to Machu Picchu. We have a guided tour of Machu Picchu, walking through important temples, palaces, sacred places and magnificent buildings.

After the Inca Trail 1 day exploration of Machu Picchu, we’ll head down to the city of Aguas Calientes. In the evening at 6:20pm you’ll take the Expedition train to Ollantaytambo. Be on time at the train station, which means 30 minutes before the departure. The train will take you to Ollantaytambo, where our transfer driver is waiting to take you back to Cusco. Finally we will drop you off at or nearby your hotel (depending the location and access) where you are staying. You will arrive around 10:30 pm.
